SSR 5 Year Birthday Slow Ride Celebration
Let's celebrate 5 years of Safe Street Rebel! Sunset Dunes is a beautiful park thanks to years of effort by so many folks fighting for car free Great Highway! We also helped fight for and won car free JFK, saved Slow Lake, installed benches, and many other actions.

Five years ago former mayor London Breed decided to end 24/7 Great Walkway - car free Great Highway. A tweet and some messages later a group of us showed up to the Great Walkway to figure out what to do and we planned the first Slow Ride during rush hour on Monday Aug 16 2021. A twitter account was made and we rode down Great Highway every week for months afterward!
Ride Details
The ride will start on Car Free JFK at the "Yolk" (Conservatory Drive East). Heading west initially, we'll turn onto 8th headed north to Slow Lake. The ride will go down Lake until 23rd Ave to then head east on formerly Slow Cabrillo. We'll turn back into the park on 10th Ave, where we'll head west on JFK again to Sunset Dunes. Once on Sunset Dunes, we'll ride all the way to the end, turn back around (for old times sake) and end at the Pacheco Surf Perch!

Considering The Weather
We'll ride this event rain or shine. If the forecast is calling for severe weather that we think may lead to unsafe conditions then we'll cancel. We'll try our best to cancel 72 hours in advance based on the forecast but of course we may cancel with shorter notice in the event of unsafe conditions.
